About SLAM Fitness

SLAM was developed by two school teachers, Monica Ardoin and Jason McElveen, at Forest Hill Elementary School in Shreveport, LA. The program was jumpstarted with a $3,000 grant from KTBS for "One School at a Time" that was received in August 2009. It was expanded thanks to a $10,000 General Mills Foundation grant that was awarded in May 2010. We are very excited about SLAM's future and committed to ensuring active, healthy lifestyles in today's youth.

Monica Ardoin loves seeing the benefits students receive from leading healthy, active lifestyles. Monica is committed to helping fight the childhood obesity epidemic in our nation. Monica graduated from Centenary College of Louisiana with a degree in Elementary Education. She has been an educator at Forest Hill Elementary for 7 years. She recently opened a gym for competitive cheerleading.
